I really appreciate my consultants, and I use them whenever I need them. Thank goodness they're there for my patients.<br><br>In a university setting, though, the converse is not true--my consultants are not grateful for me. (In the private sector, of course, it's different--I'm their bread and butter and we all know it.) There is this general sense that people go into family medicine because they're too dumb to do anything else.<br><br>I have a "niche" brain, myself, and I considered many subspecialties for that reason. Eventually, however, my ...uh, I don't know what to call it... won out and I decided to go where "my greatest gifts met the world's greatest need." And here I am, a family doctor.
